Itinerary:

Coosa Bald provides habitat for a diverse number of wildflowers. This time of year we should see some of the early ones; be prepared to stop, enjoy and, if so inclined, bring a wildflower book for identification. This will be a moderately paced hike.

We will do a shortened version of the Coosa Backcountry Trail with a short shuttle between the access points on Rte 180. To make it a true D5, we will make a side trip up to Coosa Bald and do an in-and-out hike up to Slaughter Mountain at the end (you can leave any heavy gear in the car at Wolfpen Gap).

Dogs must be on leash at all times and not interfere with other hikers or dogs.

How to Get There:

Event Directions:

Take GA 400/US 19 north to Dahlonega. Stay on US19N (left turn ) towards Dahlonega. Continue on US 19 north to GA 60. Turn left on GA 60 and go about 7.3 miles. Turn right onto Rte 180. Wolfpen Gap will be on the left (about 7.8 miles).

Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $50.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
