Itinerary:


Because of a glitch in the registration process, we've run into the problem of having too many members added to the active list above the maximum limit of 20.  Please be aware that we will be moving members above 20 registrants to the waiting list in the order of their registration times.  People will then be added to the active list as we have withdrawals.   

Staying home over the Memorial Day holiday?  Come join me for a morning at Sope Creek! Not only is it a national holiday, but IT'S SUSAN'S BIRTHDAY!!  Truly a day of celebration!

In order to avoid a crowded parking lot, we'll start the hike from Sope Creek Elementary School, about 1/4 mile down Papermill Road from the Sope Creek parking lot. 3320 Papermill Road, Marietta, GA.  It's a large parking lot, and it's free!

We'll hike for about 2.5 hours, getting in around 7 miles.  Some of the trails are hilly and rocky, so at our steady, moderately "healthy" pace, this hike might be a little challenging for true beginning hikers. However, if you've done some D2 hikes and can handle the distance, this should be a good hike for you!

If you bring your dog, it should be able to keep up with the group and interact well with other dogs and people. The Chattahoochee NRA requires that owners keep their dogs on a leash and clean up after their pets on the trails. Please be willing to keep your dog on leash out of consideration to other hikers, because it's the law and because the reputation of the AOC is damaged when members break the leash law.

Limit of 3 dogs, please!

The Sope Creek Elementary School parking lot is on Papermill Road, about 1/4 mile from Sope Creek parking lot.  If you're coming from Johnson Ferry Road, so about 1/2 mile past the Sope Creek bridge, to Sope Creek Elementary School on your left. If you're coming from I-75 on Papermill, it will be on your right at the traffic light at Shadowlawn Road.  When you turn into the school parking lot, go to the large lot on your left and park all the way at the end.
