Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.
Our trek will be from Bled to Bovec.
Day 1: August 23rd. you will need to book a room in Bled. This will be our meeting point. I will arive on 22nd. We will explore the trails around Bled on the 23rd. We will set out on the trail early on the 24th to explore our next town TBD. This is a new 186 mile trail around Mt Triglav in Slovenia. It will an Exploratory event. Be prepare for a memorable adventure filled with unforgettable scenery. The trail is just being finalized. It will be divided into segments. The park service in Slovenia is attempting to have each segment end in a village with a train station, restaurants, and lodging. The group will do 8 days of hiking approximately 12 miles per day. We will do 8 segments to be announced when the official trail map comes out by the end of June. I have a message in to the tourist board hoping for a sneak peak. You are welcome to arrive earlier or stay later for more segments. I will likely be staying longer to explore more of Slovenia. We will have a meeting to discuss villages to spend the night and lodging. Everyone will be responsible to pay for your own lodging, food and airfare. Slovenia’s landscape is filled with craggy mountain ranges, bluish green rivers, pristine lakes, unique rock formations and much more. A digital map will be available in June to download. This will assist us in planning. We go through remote villages and untouched wilderness. We will also visit some of the more known villages such as Bled, Bohinj and Bovec. Here is a a suggested Itinerary provided by Slovenia Tourist Website.
BLED POKLJUKA – RIBČEV LAZ – BOHINJSKA BISTRICA The trail continues along the northern shore of the lake below Bled Castle to the Bled Jezero railway station and from there it continues to Gorje. There we start a demanding ascent to the Pokljuka, and the trail enters the Triglav National park and continues through the natural monument of the Pokljuka Gorge, across the Kranjska Dolina and Zajavornik pastures to Goreljek on the Pokljuka. Then the trail descends through the picturesque villages of Gorjuše, Koprivnik, Jereka and continues through all the villages – Češnjica, Srednja vas and Studor to Stara Fužina on the eastern edge of Lake Bohinj. Along the eastern shore, the trail continues to Ribčev Laz and beneath the lower Bohinj mountains across the picturesque Dobrava meadows to Bohinjska Bistrica. In Bohinjska Bistrica, the trail around the Julian Alps slowly says goodbye to the Gorenjska region. It continues to Nemški Rovt and along forest roads to the Vrh Bače ridge.
VRH BAČE – GRAHOVO – MOST NA SOČI Then it descends to the village of Bača and continues past the Kacempoh farm to Kalarsko Brdo, where it crosses the hiking trail that runs to Črna Prst. A more comfortable and quicker way to reach this point is by train through the Bohinj tunnel to Podbrdo and along the hiking trail. The trail follows the familiar four municipalities marathon trail past the villages of Kal, Stržišče, Znojile and Obloke. From Obloke, the trail continues along the old road, which slowly descends to the main road through Baška Grapa. After one kilometre we leave Koritnica village and descend to the Bača River. This stage ends in Grahovo ob Bači. From there the trail again ascends – we follow the traditional panoramic trails to Ravence farm and continue to Temljive village, then we descend to Kneža and go along the side road towards Tolmin across Hum to Ljubinj village. Slightly before the village, we find the forest path on the left side that takes us to the top of Senica, an excellent panoramic point of the Soča River, the surrounding mountains and the valley. The last descent on the Primorska region side ends in Most na Soči.
TOLMIN – KOBARID – BOVEC From Most na Soči to Bovec, our trip around the Julian Alps continues along the Soča River. We continue along the hiking trail along the lake to Tolmin, then across the path trails and along the side road “on the sunny side” as locals say, to Kobarid where we get to the path at the junction for the famous Kozjak Waterfall (which is only a few minutes’ walk away) which leads us past Trnovo, Srpenica and Žaga villages, all on the opposite bank, and to Log Čezsoški. Here we come to an asphalt side road that takes us past the Boka Waterfall to Čezsoča and Bovec
|How to Get There:|
Take a flight to Slovenia Ljubljana Is the closest airport. There are a few carriers with direct flights. If you find cheaper tickets in another country just take a train to Slovenia. Europe has a great train system. You will most likely take the Lesces-Bled train line from Ljubljana to Bled. You will need to take a taxi into the town of bled. Taxi should be about $10. You can also walk about 2.5 miles. The train station is on other side of lake from town. Buses also go to Old Town. Bled will be our starting location.
This is an exploratory event. Some details will change along the way. You must have an adventurous spirt to join this event. You should be an independent traveler able to book a plain ticket and arrive at our meeting spot. Meeting spot will be Bled on 23rd.
