Itinerary:
This event will have no meet up at the Trailhead. We will meet at Ingles in Clayton Ga, if you are planning on driving yourself to this event! We start this hike on the Grassy Ridge Trailhead at Patterson Gap. ( Patterson Gap Road) Heading North just East of the Southern Nantahala Wilderness border. There will be an unbeaten trail, sometimes a path with plenty of unexpected blowdown! This trail will bypass to the West of Grassy Ridge Mountain (4406) and put us near Nichols Gap.We will be climbing for the most part of this trail until we get around the North Carolina line. At around mile 3 or less, we intersect the A.T. ( Carters Gap) and turn ourselves to a Northeasterly fashion. Once getting comfortable with the People's Trail... we will meet all of our Gaps to the North until we make our assault on Albert! The South face has it's moments but only briefly!! Nobo's call this the 100 mile mark.( from the southern terminus of Springer Mountain) This will be mile 9 for us and also lunch. You can climb the Tower with afforded views to the East. After lunch we retreat back to our steps. My concerns for this hike will be the Grassy Ridge Trail and Albert Mountain. The A.T. will be less concerning. This event will take a hiker who has experience on long hikes. The Mountain travel is doable but mileage is high. Also Grassy Ridge might be a little unforgiving and technical! ( blowdown) You must have absolutely some recent high D- 5 & above levels for this event. I will most definitely use my discretion in judging your abilities to hike this event. The leader does reserve the right to put you back on the waiting list if warranted.
