Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

This trip is open to those new to D5 backpacking and is meant to give you the opportunity to challenge yourself.  We will have ample time to reach our campsites.  But, please be aware that the first day will be a 7-mile walk with 3700 feet of elevation gain.

Day 1:  We will be driving for about 3 hours from Busbee Park n Ride.  We will park our cars near the 2-mile Joyce Kilmer Memorial loop trail off of Santeetlah Road.  We will leave out and walk most of the 2-mile memorial loop before heading up the mountain to get to Stratton Bald.  From studying the map, there appear to be at least 13 water crossings on this segment.  You may want to consider bringing water shoes.  This is up to you.  I personally just wear trail running shoes at all times during wet or dry hikes.  Once at the Bald, we will have a water source and many options for campsites.  I hope that by arriving on a Friday, we will have the most options.

Day 2:  After breakfast, we will head over to The Hangover, a high outcropping with 360-degree views.  We can have lunch there before heading back.  The total roundtrip mileage for this is 6, but with an option to go 2 miles further for a total of 8 miles.

Day 3:  We will strike the camp after breakfast and head back down the hill to the parking lot.  This will be the opposite of day 1 and will be about a 6.5-mile hike with an elevation loss of about 3700 feet.
