AT Approach, Springer Mountain, Len Foote Loop Extravaganza

Itinerary:

We will begin our hike at the AT Approach Trail at the Top of The Falls parking lot. The Approach Trail will take us up Frosty Mountain and past the Hike Inn turn off up to Springer Mountain. We should have great views and a chance to check out where many through hikers officially begin or end their AT adventures at the Southern Terminus. After a short break for lunch, we will head down Springer Mountain and take the left hand turn to the Len Foote Hike Inn where we will stop for another break and hopefully some Hike Inn left over libations. (remember to bring a couple of dollars tip money if you partake). Restrooms are available here.

After lunch we will head back down the Len Foote Inn trail to the parking lot.

This is a long hike in hot weather. Members with recent D5 experience only please.  


Required Items to Bring:

Lots of water, and a bit extra

Snacks and lunch

Good sturdy trail shoes or boots

Carpool cash ( tip money for HIke Inn)

Change of clothes/shoes for ride home (especially if you are in another member's car)

State Park Pass or money to buy a day pass (if driving)

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

North on 400 to GA 136. Left on 136 to GA 52. Turn right in to the park entrance. Turn left at The Visitors Center and follow signs to Top of Falls which will eventally be on your right. Go to the top parking lot and we will meet at the Trailhead. There are restroom facilities there.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $41.60 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
