Allow a few minutes to walk from old US 41 to the visitors center.***
.
Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a fantastic area for intown hiking.
.
We will start at the visitors center which has a rather nice museum and movie on the battles here in 1864. Afterwards, we will hike the 1.2 miles to the 1808 ft. top of Kennesaw Mountain. From there, we will head across Little Kennesaw Mountain and take a break at Big Rock Gap.  After the break we'll head back on the East-West Trail which circles the mountains on the south side.  So, the first half is very difficult, and the second half is very easy.

The total hiking distance is about 4.5 miles, and we'll be hiking at a 2.5 mph pace.
.
REMINDER:  It can be very HOT these days, so hydrate well on Wednesday before and  during the hike.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:I-75 North to the North 120-Loop Exit, turn left off the exit going under I-75 to US Hwy 41.  Take a right on US Hwy 41 until you get to Bells Ferry Road.  Take a left onto Bells Ferry Road.  Take a right onto Old US 41 until you pass in front of the mountain and park on the left or right-hand side of the road.  Note that there is a temporary road closure of Old US 41 from Barrett Pkwy to Stilesboro Rd.  You should see road closure signs near the mountain.  I went by there last Wednesday night to check it out.  You can still park beyond the road closed signs.  Only problem is when you exit you will have to take a right onto Stilesboro Road and turn around in the parking lot by the visitors center.  They are replacing the CSX Railroad bridge down the road from the parking area.

Meet prior to 6:30 PM at the cannon outside the main entrance of the visitors center.  Call the trip leader if you are running late.
