.
Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a fantastic area for intown hiking and fitness training.
.
We will start at the visitors center which has a rather nice museum and movie on the battles here in 1864. Afterwards, we will hike the 1.2 miles to the 1808 ft. top of Kennesaw Mountain. From there, we will head across Little Kennesaw Mountain, cross Burnt Hickory Road for a 10 minute rest break, and then return to the visitors center hiking back over Little and Big Kennesaw Mountains.
.
The total hiking distance is about 5 miles with minimum rest breaks. Endurance is the name of the game today. You should be good to excellent condition!!  Many people underestimate the level of difficulty involved with crossing the mountains twice.  It is strenuous.
.
There is an option to stretch out the hike an additional 3 miles and by roughly 1 hour by looping around Noses Creek from Burnt Hickory before heading back over the mountains.  This will be offered while at Burnt Hickory Road and decided upon based on the desires of the group.
.
REMINDER:  This hike is intended for intermediate to advanced hikers with prior D4 hiking experience.  As this is a fitness hike, the pace will be your own.  We will sync up at Burnt Hickory Road.  All speedsters so far ahead that they begin their trek back to the visitors center prior to everyone making to Burnt Hickory for the break must check in with a trip leader on their return.  Also, it can be very HOT these days, so hydrate well on Saturday as well as during the hike on Sunday.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:I-75 North to the North 120-Loop Exit, turn left off the exit going under I-75 to US Hwy 41.  Take a right on US Hwy 41 until you get to Bells Ferry Road.  Take a left onto Bells Ferry Road.  Take a right onto Old US 41 until you pass in front of the mountain and park on the left or right-hand side of the road.  These directions have been modified from the old directions due to the temporary road closure of Old US 41 from Barrett Pkwy to Stilesboro Rd.  You will see road closure signs near the mountain.    You can still park beyond the road closed signs.  They are replacing the CSX Railroad bridge down the road from the parking area.
Meet prior to 7:30 AM at the cannon outside the main entrance of the visitors center.  Call the trip leader if you are running late.
