Itinerary:

Ah - nothing like a swim and a hike during the heat of the summer!

Come join as as we take a short 1.5 mile hike to the Cartecay River.  There will likely be some berry pickin along the way.  We'll hang out on the rocks for some lunch and water play.  Then we'll head to the next - even bigger rock for those who want to jump from the rock into the water.  Once we've had enough - probably around 2 and 1/2 hours total - we'll head back to the cars through the serene fern woods - probably around a 2 mile hike back to the cars.  This is a loop hike.

This is Rich WMA and you must have a WMA pass.

Carpool leaves at 10AM.

Hike begins at 11AM.

Finish hike around 2:30PM.

Back at carpool at 3:30PM, maybe 4PM; depending on how long we swim and play.

Required Items to Bring:

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

We will continue North on 575/515 to Route 52, turn right on to Route 52 (there is an Amicalola sign) (the exit is on the right, but when you get to 52 you will take a left).

Your are now heading east on 52 towards Dahlonega.  Continue on 52, make a right on Mulkey Road (just past the Oak Hill United Methodist Church – same side on the road).

Take first right onto Martin, continue down Martin to a gravel road, stay on the gravel road until it dead ends (not very far).  This is the Rich Mountain WMA.

Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):85Mile(s)

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $34.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

Pass or License Options: As has been mentioned above, the C-P WMA requires a license/pass for access. There are three options: a Georgia fishing license, a hunting license, or a Land Access Permit. A fishing licese cost $15 for an annual, or $5 for one day. Land Access Permits cost $30 for a year (no short term available). If you plan to hike an any of the 80+ WMAs that require a permit/license in the state, then the annual fishing licese is the most cost effective option. Licenses can be purchased at thes e locations, or you can get them o nline.

This event is only strenuous based on your water play :)  and how many times you jump off the rock.

There is NO place to change clothes except out in the woods!
