Itinerary:

Let's get out this Labor Day morning a little earlier - - 9:30 AM - - so that we can finish before the lunch crowd at Panera Bread, just 1/4 mile from the park.

Because of a glitch in the registration process, we've run into the problem of having too many members added to the active list above the maximum limit of 20.  Please be aware that we will be moving members above 20 registrants to the waiting list in the order of their registration times.  People will then be added to the active list as we have withdrawals.

The Leita Thompson Memorial Park is a very pretty trail located in Roswell, GA. It's made of soft, small gravel and plenty wide to walk side by side. It's very wooded and clean and has a few nice little hills. I call it the perfect D2. We'll do about 5.5 miles on the trails including a walk around a small lake.

A little more information on the park:

There are no bathrooms, but there are three sets of porta potties throughout the park. And - - of course - - there are plenty of trees.

We'll start the hike at 9:30 am sharp, so please arrive a few minutes early to register in and meet your fellow hikers.

This is a dog-friendly park, with many dogs on the trail.  You are welcome to bring your dog as long as you keep it on leash during the hike and clean up any messes that it makes.  There is a fenced in "off leash" area if you'd like for your dog to be able to run free and play with other dogs after the hike.

For those who have a little time after the hike, we'll continue our socializing over lunch at Panera Bread - 1195 Woodstock Rd, Roswell, GA 30075.

Required Items to Bring:

Water, Gatorade or whatever you like to keep hydrated (important)
Good hiking shoes

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Insect spray is helpful.

The trails are shaded, but there is a large meadow we cross that offers full sun.  Sunscreen is adviseable if you are concerned about getting full sun without protection for 10-15 minutes.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

There are actually three entrances to the park!  We'll be meeting at the middle one - - at overflow lot near the arts building.  The first puts you at the dog park, at the south end of the park.  The middle driveway puts you into the overflow parking lot near the arts center building.  If you drive past the middle driveway, you'll come to the third entrance with the green-roofed pavilion. If you turn in there, you can simply drive down the little road to the right to get to the overflow parking area where we'll gather.
