.
Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a fantastic area for intown hiking and fitness training.  Training for an upcoming hike, backpacking trip, or trek?  This is a great place to prepare for it, and the right event for it.
.
We will start at the visitors center which has a rather nice museum and movie on the battles here in 1864. Afterwards, we will hike the 1.2 miles to the 1808 ft. top of Kennesaw Mountain. From there, we will head across Little Kennesaw Mountain, cross Burnt Hickory Road for a short rest break, then head to Cheatham Hill for a break at the monument.  After that we'll return to the visitors center hiking back over Little and Big Kennesaw Mountains with small variances from the way we came.
.
The total hiking distance is about 10 miles with minimum rest breaks. Endurance is the name of the game today. You should be good to excellent condition!!  Many people underestimate the level of difficulty involved with crossing the mountains twice.  It is strenuous.
.
REMINDER:  This hike is intended for intermediate to advanced hikers with prior D4 hiking experience.  As this is a fitness hike, the pace will be your own, but we will maintain a minimum 2.5 mph pace in order to be done before noon.  We will sync up at Burnt Hickory Road and Cheatham Hill.  All speedsters so far ahead that they begin their trek back to the visitors center prior to everyone making to Cheatham Hill for the break must check in with a trip leader on their return.  It can be very HOT and humid these days, so hydrate well on Saturday as well as during the hike on Sunday.
