Itinerary:

We'll meet at 7:30 finish between 10:00 and 10:30.  We're joing Atlanta Audubon Society (AAS) on one of their Fall migration walks. Giff Beaton and/or Chuck Salleby of AAS will be leading us.  Expect many other birders (anywhere from 20 - 124; hopefully not that many, but last Spring that's how many showed up on one of the migration walks). Bring BINOCULARS, if you don't your enjoyment will be slim.

Birding focus:  Kennesaw is one of the best places in the eastern United States to find fall migrants in September, including warblers, tanagers, vireos, thrushes, and flycatchers.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park has always been known to have excellent birding habitat. But as the mountain itself has been birded more carefully in the past several years, it has been "discovered" to be the rich migrant stopover it is. While the mountain has always enjoyed the reputation of being the best Atlanta location for observing fall raptor migration movements, we now know that the treelines up and down the paved road to the summit can yield an exciting passerine display.

The 3,000-acre Kennesaw National Battlefield Park is the first location in Georgia to be designated by the Audubon Society as an Important Bird Area (http://www.atlantaaudubon.org/iba/index.htm).
