Itinerary:

We will start at Collins West trailhead and immediately make our way into the rocky gorge. We will see a couple waterfalls and a small cave during the first part of the day. In the afternoon we will be making our way back along the rim of the gulf. This part is less interesting than the earlier portion of the hike so we will likely move quicker during this segment. Overall I would describe the planned pace as being moderate.

We should end up covering around 13.5 miles over the course of the day. This write up from the website Hiking the Appalachians and Beyond gives a very good summary of the route we will be taking https://www.hikingtheappalachians.com/trail-reports/collins-gulf-loop .

I expect us to finish before dark but you should have a headlamp just in case things don't go as planned. The days are so short right now it doesn't take a lot going wrong to delay things enough that you don't finish before sunset.
