Itinerary:

Standing Indian mountain 5,499 ft is the highest point in the Southern Natahala Wilderness. Our hike will begin at the Standing Indian campground at the Lower Ridge Trailhead heading south which will lead us into John Gap. After the break we proceed to the west side of Frog Mountain bypassing the summit and descending into Frank Gap. We will then proceed to the summit of Standing Indian for lunch at the 4.5 mile mark. After lunch we will jump on The Appalachian Trail and head northwest and hike about 1mile passing the Standing Indian Shelter heading to Deep Gap and Kimsey Creek Junction. We will then take the Kimsey Creek Trail and head north for about 4 miles where we will be following the creek for most of the way. This trail will present many creek crossings and small water falls that will lead us back to the Standing Indian Campgrounds. The first 4 miles to the summit will be quite laborious with very few switchbacks! You will get a large sum of your 2500 ft elevation gain just in the first 4 miles. You must have completed several D5s and above hikes and be physically fit to complete this hike. I will use my discretion and judging your ability to hike this event. The leader does reserve the right to remove anyone if warranted. We will stop on the way up at the Ingles in Clayton Georgia for bathrooms. Let nature be the sounds 🙏
