Itinerary:

Spring at Table Rock / Hike 1 to Pinnacle

This is hike 1 of 2 at South Carolina's Table Rock State Park. We've taken the best of Table Rock and divided it into two accessible D4 hikes. Join one or both back-to-back day hikes.

Hike 1 tackles the "other" mountain peak at the park, Pinnacle Mountain. Pinnacle actually sits higher than Table Rock Mountain at 3,425 feet. Beginning near the Nature Center, we'll hike along Carrick Creek for the first couple of miles, passing waterfalls and making several stream crossings. Along the way, we'll take a short in-and-out side trail to an overlook of Mill Creek Falls before reaching Bald Rock Overlook, featuring some of the best views in the entire park. After a lunch and rest break, we'll make the final push up to Pinnacle -- this last section is short but steep with rocks and boulders. We'll return by making a small loop at the top combining the forested Ridge and Mill Creek Pass trails before continuing back on the Pinnacle Trail.

Estimated distance is almost 10 miles, with elevation gain approaching 2,500 feet and technical terrain. The estimated duration of the hike is just a best guess; we'll be moving at a moderate pace but we'll take breaks as needed and will go slower on the final uphill section. This is a hard D4, borderline D5 hike. If you don't have recent, substantial D4 or above experience, this is not a suitable event.

If you choose to do it as a single day hike, the park is about a 2.5 hour drive from Atlanta. The trip leaders plan to stay overnight in the park's cabins the nights of April 1 and 2. (https://southcarolinaparks.com/table-rock/lodging) There also are lots of lodging options in nearby Greenville.
