Itinerary:

We will hike the two trails in the Songbird Habitat which sits on the site of the former 1996 Summer Olympic Games venue for Archery and Cycling.

We will meet at the "Caboose" parking lot in Stone Mountain village (see below) where parking is free, then walk into the park via the PATH trail.  Once in the park we will take a short hike on the road and then take the Orange connector trail and the Green Nature Garden trail to the White Cherokee Trail.  We'll take a right on the Cherokee Trail and follow it past the playground and catfish pond until we reach the Songbird Habitat area.  The Woodland Trail and Meadow Trail will take us on a 2 mile journey into the home of beautiful birds such as the Eastern Bluebird, White-Breasted Nuthatch, and Northern Cardinal.  We will then retrace our steps back to the parking lot.  The hike officially ends here, but I hope you will join us for Brats and Brew at The Corner German Restaurant & Bakery in Stone Mountain Village.  If you haven't been there it's a great place to visit.  Here's a link to their web site:  http://www.germanrestaurant.com/

PLEASE NOTE:  It is getting dark earlier now, so we will leave at 6PM sharp in order to finish the hike before it gets dark.  We will also maintain close to a 2.5 to 3.0 speed for the same reason.

Total distance of hike:  approximately five miles.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:We will meet at the "Caboose" - this is on the main drag of Stone Mountain Village on the left just past the police station and just past the railroad tracks.  Look for our black Subaru.  This is a free park area with an excellent path into the park.  Let's meet there at 5:45 PM to start the hike at 6 PM sharp!

From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 5 (Memorial Drive/Stone Mtn Village, GA 10).  Proceed 0.5 miles to the first exit. At the end of the ramp turn left.  Stay on this road as it winds into the village, go past the police station (on the right), over the railroad tracks, and make the very next left into the parking lot.

Notes:

I will email all event participants about the status of the hike in case there is a chance of severe weather.
