Itinerary:

***The hike will start at 6:15 PM sharp, so please plan on meeting prior to that time  to sign in.  You must park in the area on old US Hwy 41 to prevent being locked in the main parking lot by the ranger. Allow a few minutes to walk from old US 41 to the visitor's center.  Account for potentially bad traffic. ****
.
Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a fantastic area for intown hiking and/or training for hiking in the mountains north of us.
.
We will start at the visitor's center which has a rather nice museum and movie on the battles here in 1864. After introductions and a quick briefing, we will hike the 1.2 miles to the 1808 ft. top of Kennesaw Mountain. From there, we will head across Little Kennesaw Mountain and take a break on top.  After the break we'll do the small loop on top of Little Kennesaw and head back the same way we came.

The total hiking distance is about 3.5 miles, and we'll be hiking at roughly a 2.5 mph pace.
.
REMINDER:  It can be HOT these days, so hydrate well on Wednesday before and  during the hike.

Required Items to Bring:

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:I-75 North to the North 120-Loop Exit (called North Marietta Parkway), turn left off the exit going under I-75 to US Hwy 41.  Take a right on US Hwy 41 until you get to Bells Ferry Road.  Take a left onto Bells Ferry Road.  Take a right onto Old US 41 until you pass in front of the mountain and park on the left or right-hand side of the road after passing the redlight for Stilesboro Road.

Important Note: Old US 41 is closed in order to replace the CSX railroad bridge.  The signs will guide you to get onto Stilesboro road which is a left turn.  Don't turn left, but rather head straight through the barricades.  There is room to drive your car through them.  There is a small sign indicating overflow parking beyond the signs so it's okay.  Park beyond the Stileboros Road redlight and barricade on either side of the road.

Meet prior to 6:15 PM at the cannon outside the main entrance of the visitor's center so we can complete the sign-in process and get underway on time.  Call the trip leader if you are running late.
