The North Georgia mountains may not be the Rockies (or the Himalayas), but they include many peaks that make for superb hikes and offer incredible views. For this series, we are counting down the tallest mountains in GA. Summit GA's Highest Peaks thread #6 - Tray Mountain*** This trip is intended for those in excellent shape. Be honest with yourself whether you have the physical ability and desire to do this event. Previous experience hiking in mountain conditions is highly recommended. For those that have hiked a trail similar to Blood Mountain with one summit over 1000 feet, this one has three. So you should have been able to complete a less strenuous backpacking trip fairly comfortably. We will be keeping a good moderate pace as we hike thoughout the day. ***
This is an in and out hike with a total distance of 10.2 miles. The hike starts at Unicoi Gap on the Appalachian Trail just north of Helen, GA. We will go 5.1 miles to the summit of Tray Mountain and back. Approximate Altitude Changes: Trail Description:
