There is no carpool for this event. Social distancing will be in effect and I expect everyone to respect this practice with no judgement if you need to remind someone to keep the space. I recommend everyone carry a face mask along with your first aid kit should you run into some unexpected circumstance, but these are not required.
DIRECTIONS from the GA-400 Mansell Park-n-ride (click here) to Lake Winfield Scott.
Cost to enter the Lake Winfield Scott area is $5.00/day. We will meet in the parking lot near the lake, most people are familiar with this space. There is no cell signal in this area.
This is a loop hike to the highest point on the Appalachian trail in Georgia - Blood Mountain. This will be a a moderately paced hike where we will enjoy the beautiful woods. There is about 1500 feet in elevation gain, so if you must be in reasonably good shape to keep up with the group. It is mostly uphill all the way to the summit of Blood Mtn. Beginning at Lake Winfield Scott, we'll hike up the Jarrad Creek Trail to the A.T. and on up to the summit of Blood Mountain (about 3.5 miles). We'll probably spend about 1 hour at the summit enjoying lunch and the views. Then we'll hike out on the A.T. to the Slaughter Creek trail, which will return us to Lake Winfield Scott.
Optional post hike swim in Lake Winfield Scott; there is a beach area and a roped-off for swmming. Bathhouse and bathrooms are available. So bring your swimming attire and hang out; feel free to bring food and drinks to enjoy, chair, towel. The TL will likely remain for an hour or so regardless of rain chances.
Up to two friendly well behaved dogs are allowed... There are a couple streams for water, but not at the top, so you'll need to bring water for your dog.

The entrance to the Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area is on the right, approximately 7-8 miles on after you turn onto SR 180. As you drive toward the lake, past the campground, the parking lot is located on the left, just before you get to the bridge. The trailhead is located across the bridge and to your right.
