The North Georgia mountains may not be the Rockies (or the Himalayas), but they include many peaks that make for superb hiking and offer incredible views.   For this series, we are counting down the tallest mountains in GA.

Summit GA's Highest Peaks thread

#8 - Coosa Bald and #7 Slaughter Mountain

Howdy Everyone! I am proud to offer this "two for the price of one" summit hike along one of my favorite trails. We'll start at Vogel State Park and hike along the Coosa Backcountry Loop. Along the way we'll summit Coosa Bald (4280') and then the seldom climbed Slaughter Mountain (4338'). As many of you know, the Coosa Backcountry Loop is an extremely strenuous trail. Please be sure you are up to a 13+ mile hike with some extended climbs! Hike fast or hike slow, I don't care - just be done by sun down.

Please join me in practicing Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics along the trail - if you pack it in, then pack it out!   -Scott L.
