After a long day in a dark design lab I need fresh air, exercise and fellowship on the trail...Join me!
I will be parking in the main lot (GPS link provided above) and we will start by meeting and doing introductions a bit before 5 p.m. (ARRIVE EARLY, as we START right at 5). From there we will GO UP the Walk Up Trail (Yellow Blaze) to where the Cherokee Trail intersects (White Blaze) and turn to the RIGHT (going in a counter clock wise fashion), scurry down along the granite towards the tracks and begin the sort of level terrain that skirts the mountain and travels along the lake - so beautiful at this time of year! We're not taking a lot of breaks as we're racing the sun toward the horizon, so we want to be sure we're sticking together, but it's near impossible to get lost there...plenty of bail out points and road crossings, but I want to keep the feet moving and get to the summit for the setting. So once we return to the Walk Up Trail I hope we have a bit of time to climb to the summit before the the weather may play into the factoring here, but I still plan to climb to the top for a sunset (or not). A head torch is a REQUIRED item...even if it's a cell phone light, a light is still needed to descend that 1,686' mountain.
The pace for this event will vary on terrain..rolling sections of the Cherokee Trail will be around the 18min/mile pace and the Climbing sections can be done at a 20-21min pace...but really once we're on the Walk Up Trail to the can travel at your leisure.
