Itinerary:

Ok the temps are cooling off and time for some autumn midweek D4/D5 hikes.

Andrews Cove trail starts at the campground there at about 2000' elevation and ends at Indian Grave Gap (on the Appalachian Trail) at a 3100'.  So it gains about 1100' over two miles.

From here we will go up to Tray Mtn, check out the Tray Mtn AT shelter and then down about 1000' to Steeltrap Gap.   Then just take a break and turn around and come back the same way.

If you aren't up for that entire route, you can always stop in the middle at whatever point you'd like and wait there or start to head back.   For instance if you stopped at the top of Tray Mtn, that would cut off 1000' of ascent and 4 miles round trip.

Total distance for the full hike is ~13.9 miles.
Total ascent should be ~3500'.

There some nice overlooks on Tray mtn including a couple of lesser known ones that we will try to find...should be a cool hike.
