Itinerary:

The Dockery Lake to Preachers Rock hike is an AOC classic.  Join me as I put my own spin on this classic and add an extra overlook or two, several waterfalls and make it a loop hike.

We will meet at the Chestatee Overlook parking area, just north of the Dockery Lake campground road. An unofficial trail, the Steeltrap Knob trail, will take us about a mile to Steeltrap Knob.  This is our first overlook and will require navigating several blowdowns along the unmaintained trail, but the view from the top is extremely nice. After the overlook, we head downhill to meet up with the AT at Woody Gap. A right turn on the AT will take us to our second overlook, Preachers Rock. This is another very nice overlook, but the crowds will force us to take only a brief stop. Back on the AT we go as we may take a short sidetrail to a campsite for yet another overlook. We will stay on the AT until we hit the blue blazed Dockery Lake trail. This trail will be a nice downhill trek past creeks and several short bushwhacks to see somewater falls.  Two of the waterfalls are new to me and should provide for some adventure filled minutes. This trail will take us to Dockery Lake where we will hike along the campground road and finally a short road walk to get back to our cars.  Somewhere along the way we will stop for lunch.

This should be an adventurous hike, so if you prefer a "red carpet" trail, this event may not be for you.

Recent D5 experience is required to join the fun as we will be moving at about 2.7mph, on the high end of moderate.
