Itinerary:

Located northwest of Macon, High Falls State Park is named for tumbling cascades on the Towaliga River. In the early 1800s, this area was a prosperous industrial town with several stores, a grist mill, cotton gin, blacksmith shop, shoe factory and hotel. High Falls fell from prosperity in the 1880s when a major railroad bypassed it.

We will first walk the Historic Trail to the Tranquil (or Tranquillity) Trail, which is a loop, and then retrace our steps on the Historic Trail back to High Falls Drive, for a total of about 3.5 miles. After crossing the bridge accross the Towaliga River and a very short walk we will do the Falls Trail loop, which is about 1.5 miles.
