Itinerary:

Please come hike with me at Red Top Mountain - we will hike approx. 8 miles on the Sweet Gum Trail, Homestead Trail, and the Iron Hill Trail.

Meet at Red Top Mtn State Park & Lodge (Park Office).  At 9:00 our hike will start and we will hike out of the parking lot by starting on the Sweetgum Trail which will connect with the Homestead Trail.  The White Tail Trail is a very short trail but has some beautiful views of Lake Allatoona.  We will then hike down the campground trail and the Iron Hill Trail (there may be bicycle traffic on the Iron Hill Trail)

These trails have some elevation but I take hills slow and easy. We will hike at a moderate pace (under 3 mph) and take a couple very brief water breaks.

$5 daily parking pass required (unless you already have annual pass). you can purchase at visitor's center but I'm not sure about at the Lodge (there may be a kiosk in the parking lot to pay but it might be cash only).  to play it safe just purchase online.   https://gastateparks.reserveamerica.com/posProductDetails.do?id=554806&contractCode=GA

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Meet at the Red Top Mtn State Park & Lodge (Park Office) 21 Lodge Road SE, Cartersville, GA 30121

From Atlanta, take I-75 Northbound to exit #285. Go right (east) on Red Top Mountain Road SE and cross Lake Allatoona. Make a Left onto Park Marina Rd. Then Right at Lodge Rd SE. Park at Red Top Mtn State Park and Lodge. Note: We are NOT meeting at the Visitor's Center.

Notes:

Georgia State Parks require a parking pass.  You can buy a daily pass ($5.00) or annual pass at the park office, where we will start the hike.

There are also restrooms at the Visitor's Center which we will pass about 2/3 of the way through the hike and stop if anyone needs to refill their water or take a bathroom break. (currently the lodge is closed and restrooms are only available at the visitor's center - which is not where we will park and begin the hike) please plan appropriately.
