Itinerary:
Black Rock State ParkDay 1 (Sat- 10/17)
Park/Meet at the Trading Post. Pay our dues then continue to the trail head and park. We will day hike the Tennesee Rock Trail , a moderate 2.2 mile hike. It should take about 1 1/2 hours. We will have the option to drop off our overnight packs in the car to do this hike so bring a small pack for the hike if you like. This trail winds through a lush high forest that includes beautiful vistas that on clear days span over 80 miles into neighboring states NC, SC and TN.

James E. Edmond backcountry trailAfter the hike, we will pick up our backpacks from the car and start hiking the James E. Edmond back country trail which is filled with amazing laural coves, streams and small waterfalls. We will be on this trail roughly 3-4 miles, it is a moderate to strenuous hike with very steep inclines. We will stop on the way and take a short walk on Taylor Chapel Rd to enjoy and walk around Black Rock Lake, a .82 easy mile loop. After we will continue to our backcountry site located at the summit of Lookoff Mountain. Your trip leaders heard this is the best site located at the edge of the mountain with beautiful vistas of Wolffork Valley and surrounding mountain ranges.

We will set up camp, enjoy the views, look for wood, relax, be silly and enjoy our fire afterwards!

Day 2 (Sun 10/18) 9am departure from site
Continue on the James E Edmonds backcountry trail Sunday morning. This will be around a 3.5 difficult mile hike filled with more mountain range views! We should also catch the beautiful leaves changing. We will pass the lake and continue back out to our cars. Once we get back, we can drop off our packs at the car and take a quick walk to Ada Hi-Falls, a short .25 difficult hike to see the falls. We should be done around 12 PM so we can stop somewhere for lunch, afterwards.

Black Rock Lake This trip is rated a D4 because it has a mix of 2 trails. Tennessee Rock trail is a moderate  D4 and the James E. Edmond trail is a 7.2 mile D5 filled of the strenuous up/hill and down hill climbs. You must be in darn good shape for this hike!!! This is our first time we will be doing this hike, therefore it will be a Backpacking and an Explorer trip! The trail markers are very simple so it should be no problem.

Your trip leaders will drive up to Black Rock and camp Friday night at the Fern Cove site, a back country site that is located .75 miles in (a 30 min walk) on the James E. Edmond trail. We will meet everyone at the Trading Post at 9:30 AM Sat morning. If you want to drive up on Friday night, let us know because we will have plenty of room at the site. We will probably leave Atlanta around 4:30-5:00 PM on Friday so we can have enough daylight to hike in. We will coordinate with all the people that want to carpool and get you guys in contact with each other.

Please keep in mind it is $6 per night. You will pay at the Trading Post at arrival. Bring money.
