Itinerary:

Hike at Arabia Mountain - let's go "searching for the blooming Diamorpha".

All photos courtesy of AOC hiker Karin T. (Thanks Karin)

Once part of a quarry, Arabia Mountain is now protected as part of the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve. This otherworldly rock outcrop is a monadnock, a geologic formation that has the seen the ground around it erode away, leaving the mountain we know and love today. Arabia Mountain also contains a variety of rare and endangered plants, such as Diamorpha, which grows in the fragile solution pit ecosystems that appear on the rock face.  As you hike on the rock outcrop make sure to leave no trace behind you! That means avoiding stepping or impacting the solution pits, the shallow depressions where Diamorpha and other flowers live. Please “stay on the gray”: step on the bare granite and avoid any puddles, pits and sandy patches. That way we can ensure that everyone enjoys Arabia Mountain and all the wild plants that live there

Hike will be five miles or slightly under - leisurely pace.

Not sure on the restroom situation here so plan on not having any

parking is free

COVID-19 - please be respectful to AOC members and other hikers on the trails - keep social distance at least six feet between yourself and your fellow hikers.  Please be advised that attendees of AOC events should have face coverings on their person, in the event they are unable to maintain a physical distance of 6 feet.

AOC limit on this event is 10 hikers - ocassionally (if everybody logs in at once and registers at once) the system has a glitch and may allow more than 10 hikers on the event.  If this does happen I am obligated to keep to the 10 limit and remove the last ones that signed up.  I get notification of time you register and to be fair the first 10 are the only ones that I keep on the roster.
