Itinerary:
A favorite of ours for many years, this shortened version of the Coosa begins in Vogel Park and goes counter-clockwise to Calf Stomp Gap, the Coosa's halfway point (approx. 6 miles) where we turn back toward Vogel along an unpaved, unused forest service road that rejoins the Coosa at the point where it leaves the Park. The total hiking distance is approx. 9 miles.

The first 6 miles starts out moderate and ends up strenuous. The 3 miles back would be a piece of cake if you hadn't already hiked 6 miles. Our hikes are moderately paced with frequent stops to regroup or enjoy a view. While this is not a hike for anyone looking to set a speed record, it is also not a hike for beginners. As usual, having fun is the goal - no whining :)

Bring all the usual stuff for a 9-mile, 6-hour, trek in the mountains. If you don't know what that is, you should not be doing this hike - seriously.

We'll have dinner after the hike at Sunflower in Cleveland, the best American-style Chinese food in Georgia!

Required Items to Bring:
2-3 liters water
Small flashlight in case we get delayed and finish after sunset
Trail lunch/snacks
Money for gas and dinner
