Itinerary:

Let's explore the Central Section of Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.  For this hike we will NOT be hiking the mountain itself but instead focus on trails south of Burnt Hickory Road.

We will meet at the Burnt Hickory Road/Pigeon Hill parking lot near the kiosk at the top of the lot. Please arrive a few minutes early to allow us to depart at 10:00 am sharp.  Note there are no bathrooms at this parking lot so plan accordingly.

Parking is now $5 at Kennesaw Mountain NBP or use of an annual pass (Kennesaw Mt NBP specific or annual or lifetime America The Beautiful National Park passes).  You can pay for parking either at the KMNBP visitors center or online at Recreation.Gov.  There are no parking kiosks in the Burnt Hickory/ Pigeon Hill lot.

We will head up Pigeon Hill first to get the biggest climb of the day out of the way. Taking the Little Kennesaw Cutoff to the Brumbry trail, we will cross Burnt Hickory Road and head up New Salem Church trail.  Once we get to Noses Creek trail we will head across Noses Creek and then do a loop using the Hardage Mill and Noses Creek trails before heading back to the parking lot.

As we hike, we will pass several miles of trenches and artillery batteries that are reminders of the 1864 battle of Kennesaw Mountain.  Lots of history all around.  We may also see some of the local wildlife including deer which I rarely fail to see when hiking at Kennesaw.
