Itinerary:

Siler Bald provides one of the great panoramic views in the Sourtheast.  I have scheduled this as a two night backpacking trip, but for those of you who work on Friday, we'll set up a second group to meet at the trailhead on Saturday morning at 11:00 am.

For those of you who are available on Friday, we’ll meet at Winding Stair Gap Parking lot and start our trip at noon.  We'll hike northbound on the AT for 4.3 miles. We'll continue past the junction to the shelter and stop at a wide open meadow just below the bald.  Our campsite will be on the right.

You are free to spend the afternoon hiking or just being lazy.  Save some time and energy to gather wood for a nice fire.  You'll also need to get water and the closest source is about .5 miles from the campsite.  I'm sure some of us will want to venture up to the Bald to enjoy the late evening views and possibly a sunset.

Bring a daypack and a pack lunch for Saturday.  We'll hike about 12 miles round trip to Wayah Bald.

For those of you coming on Saturday, meet at the trailhead at 11:00 pm.  Follow the directions to the campsite.  You're on your own for Saturday afternoon, except you need to gather fire wood and get water.  The closest water source is near the shelter.

Sunday morning, we will do an optional short hike on the AT or enjoy views on Siler Bald then pack up camp around 10.00 and start our hike back down to Winding Stair Gap.

If you have any questions, please e-mail or contact me before the event.
