Itinerary:

Join me for one of my favorite mountain hikes to Preacher's Rock. We start 12 miles north of Dahlonega at Dockery Lake and trek 3.7 miles on the scenic Dockery Lake Trail before we intersect with the Appalachian Trail. We hang a left on the AT and continue hiking for 1.4 miles until we reach Big Cedar Mountain. A blue-blazed side trail will take us to a scenic overlook called Preacher's Rock. After 30 minutes or so having lunch and enjoying the expansive views we'll retrace our steps back to the parking lot.

The total distance is about 10.2 miles and vertical rise is 1,750 feet. We hike along Dockery Lake, rock hop scenic creeks and small waterfalls, stroll thru hemlock forests, and enjoy amazing views from Preacher's Rock.

We'll take a moderate average pace of 2.5 mph, faster on the down hills and slower on the ups. We will hike as a group and stop at all intersections to ensure we are all together.

Please bring a face covering to use when social distancing is not possible.
