Itinerary:

Johnson Ferry North/ Hyde Farm

If you like hiking in solitude while transiting some beautiful trails along creeks, rivers and ponds, this is the the hike for you.  The terrain is generally flat with two short climb of about 200 feet.  As a result, we will be hiking at 2.5 to 2.75 MPH.  We will cover 5.5 miles in about 2 hours.

We will start our hike at the Johnson Ferry North trailhead off Johnson Ferry road and head out to the North on well established trails adjacent to a pond where turtles and ducks are often present.  Next we will transition to several well established but “unofficial” trails utilizing old woods roads.  These will take us nearby to historic Hyde Farm which operated as a working farm from the 1840s until 2004.  The farm was originally the home of the Power family who operated Power’s Ferry for many years. On the way back to the trailhead we will first follow Mulberry Creek which we will cross multiple times.  But don’t worry, the creek is generally running at about 2 inches deep and there are well placed stones we can use to cross it.  As we work our way back to the cars, we will hike along the Chattahoochee River.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

The Johnson Ferry North trailhead is located near where Johnson Ferry Road crosses the Chattahoochee River.  The park is located on the Cobb County side of the river and the park entrance is directly across JFR from Columns Drive.  There is a traffic light at this intersection.

If you are coming from East Cobb, the park is on the left side of JFR immediately before crossing the river.  If coming from Sandy Springs, turn right immediately after crossing the river. You will see the parking pay station immediately in front of you and a gate.  Drive through the gate and proceed to the back parking lot where we will meet.  This is a CRNRA unit so parking is $5 (or use your annual CRNRA pass).
