Please join me on a hike along one of the most popular and diverse mountain trails in North Georgia.

Backpacker magazine included the Hike Inn trail as one of 36 “Best American Hikes", and the Hike Inn was included on National Geographic Traveler’s “Stay List.”

We start the hike at the top of the falls on the AT Approach trail for about 4.5 miles at which point we hang a right on the Hike Inn Connector trail. After a mile on the HI connector trail, we arrive at the Inn. We'll hang out at the Inn overlook for about 30 minutes enjoying lunch and the long views. We return to the cars via the Hike Inn trail to complete the loop.

This is a moderate to difficult loop hike with 2300 feet of elevation in 10.5 miles. I'll take a moderate pace, averaging 2.5 mph, slower on the ups and faster on the downs. I'll also stop at various points along the trail, especially intersections to regroup.

We depart from the carpool location at 8:00 am, and the hike will begin from the top of the falls at approximately 9:30am.

If you do not have recent D4 experience, expect an email or phone call to determine your ability to complete the hike.

From the Mansell Park & Ride, take Georgia 400 North past the outlet Mall to GA 136. Turn left onto GA 136. Then turn right onto GA 52. The park entrance will be on the left. Once in the park, follow the signs to the parking area above the falls. The parking lot is on the far side of the falls and has a sign for Hike Inn parking. There are restroom facilities at the trailhead.

Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $41.60 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
