Itinerary:
Previous experience hiking in mountain conditions is highly recommended. For those that have hiked a trail similar to Blood Mountain with one summit over 1000 feet, this one has three.  So you should have been able to complete a less strenuous hike fairly comfortably. If you haven't completed a D5 hike before, expect a call from us to discuss your experience and capability to do this hike.

Now that the leaves are falling from the trees and the temperatures are dropping, it's a great time to hike Tray Mountain.  Along with Blood Mountain, it is the most panoramic view on the Georgia AT and you you will have 360-degree view of the surrounding area.  If the weather is clear we should have a good view of the Nantahala Mountains in North Carolina and the rest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia.

This is an in and out hike with a total distance of 10.2 miles.  The hike starts at Unicoi Gap on the Appalachian Trail just north of Helen, GA. We will go 5.1 miles to the summit of Tray Mountain and back.

Approximate Altitude Changes:
Ascend 1,125 feet to the top of Rocky Mountain at 1.3 miles
Descend 975 feet to Indian Grave Gap at 2.6 miles
