Itinerary:
Tumbling Rock Cave has a variety of historical and natural features such as the remains of Salt-peter mining from the 1700's to 1800's, large flowstone formations with nice coloration of translucent blues, grays & whites, massive column formations called the elephants feet and a hallway of older formations called the "Totem Gallery" like an image of old Greek and Roman ruins.  Our main destination will be the "topless dome" with a 400' high waterfall cascading from the ceiling.  If there is time and energy, we will continue to the hidden "Inner sanctum" room and through the "rabbit hole".  There is a small passage that leads to a nicely colored large room.  An additional option may be the challenging 200' climb up a steep muddy slope to the "Pillar of Fire".  We will have a high power spotlight to illuminate the waterfall and large rooms that our helmet lights aren't able to reveal.  There are 6 miles of cave and rooms to explore and we'll explore as much as can be safely travelled in a group.

Required Items to Bring:
Caving or Climbing Helmet with a BRIGHT Water Resistant Light (If you don't have a helmet, rentals will be available.) If you are renting a helmet you will need to bring 8AA size batteries for the light. 4 for the light and 4 for spares.  A backup light such as a medium sized 2AA or 3AA Maglight, Gloves and Knee pads (soft only, no hard plastic) Hiking Boots or shoes with good tread (no smooth soles) And we will get very wet so synthetic clothes are best, cotton or denim will hold water and you will be cold.  The air tempin the cave is relatively warm but the water is around 58 degrees.  A daypack or fanny pack to hold water, snacks (energy bars), a spare light and anything else you wish to bring with you.  Ziplock bags can be used to keep items dry.  At the end of the trip you will need a change of clothes and a large plastic bag to contain your dirty/wet clothes for the trip back to the park and ride.

Cost Includes:The SCCI (Southeastern Cave Conservation Inc.) leases and manages the cave from private owners.  A donation of $10 is required for non-members and $7 for members.  Payment is at the entrance to the cave manager.  The money directly supports the cost of leasing, managing and protecting the cave.  The SCCI's focus is on cave conservation and providing access to caves for cavers in the Southeastern US.
