A Mason Mill Mosey

Hello everyone! It's time to change things up with a Mason Mill Mosey!

We will be meeting at Mason Mill Park in Decatur, GA. We'll meet up in front of the restrooms in the parking lot, then head over to the South Peachtree Creek Trail for a leisurely hike. We may take the boardwalk that leads to North Druid Hills Rd., or we may head towards Medlock and venture off onto some of the marked loop and spur side trails

This is intended to be a fairly easy walk. There are some ups and downs, but they are generally pretty gentle. We'll be moving at a steady, relaxed paced to make it through the hike in an hour. Since we may be going off-trail, the surface will not be as even as on the main path, but it shouldn't be too bad. Overall, this should be a good hike for beginners looking for more of a walk than a workout. Please arrive about 10-15 minutes early, or a bit earlier if you wish to take advantage of the restrooms before we get started. At 8:25 AM we will have introductions. We will begin our hike promptly at 8:30 AM and get back to the cars at 9:30 AM. 

COVID UPDATE - Per the Mason Mill website, anyone who uses the Mason Mill area must follow CDC guidelines. The CDC states that anyone fully vaccinated (two weeks after the final dose of vaccine) may resume activites as normal. People who are not fully vaccinated should wear a mask and stay 6 feet away from others. As such, this hike will require masks and social distancing for those not fully vaccinated. Masks and social distancing will be optional for those fully vaccinated. Please prepare appropriately and be respectful of others' choices.

Water - even though this is an easy hike, it is starting to get warm. To be safe, you will be required to bring water on the hike with you.

The weather is predicting a 37% chance of scattered thunderstorms with temps in the 70s on Sunday. I'll watch the weather to see if the storms will be skipping the AM hours, as they often have been, and we will continue with the hike as long as there's not a high likelihood of AM thunderstorms. One thing to keep in mind - rain can make the boardwalk slick, and if we go off trail, it could be a little muddy. Please make sure your shoes have good traction.

From I-85 - Take exit 91 and head southbound on Clairmont Rd. Go about 2.3 miles and turn left onto McConnell Dr (this is the first stoplight south of North Druid Hills Rd). Go about 400 ft. At the stop sign, turn right. Just a bit further down you will see a large sign for Mason Mill Park - turn left here and park near the stone restroom building.

From Hwy 78 - At the intersection of Scott Blvd and Clairemont Rd, turn northbound onto Clairemont. Go about 2 miles (you will pass by the Atlanta VA Medical Center). Turn right onto McConnell Dr (there will be a stoplight here). Go about 400 ft. At the stop sign, turn right. Just a bit further down you will see a large sign for Mason Mill Park - turn left here and park near the stone restroom building.
