Itinerary:

Friday: We'll meet at the carpool at 6:15 PM Friday evening and head out at 6:30 PM.  We'll park the cars beside the road near the end of the road that leads to the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest and head out under headlamp to the first campsite. (~1 mile : ~600 ft gain)

Saturday: After breakfast we'll head up the Naked Ground Trail to Naked Ground (~5,000 ft) then up to Bob Stratton Bald (5,360 ft) where we'll set up camp for Saturday night.  If conditions are too brutal, we'll head down to a campsite off of the bald and into the trees for some protection from the elements. (~7 miles : ~3000 ft gain)

Sunday:
After breakfast we'll head back to Naked Ground and up to Haoe Lead (5,249 ft) and the Hangover Lead Overlook.  If we are lucky, we'll be soaking in fantastic views of the Smoky Mountains chain and a view of the AT all the way to Wayah Bald.  From the overlook we'll head back up to Haoe Lead and down the Jenkins Meadow Trail back to the cars to complete the loop. (~9 miles : 3600 ft loss with some undulation and near-verticals in between)

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $140.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

This is winter backpacking.  Conditions could be brutally cold or unseasonably warm.  Rain, fog, ice, sleet, snow, and sun could happen, so prepare for anything and you will do just fine :-)
