Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

This is going to be a fun packed hiking adventure in North Carolina. If you are fit and crave an adventure,  you will enjoy this trip! We expect to be near peak for leaf peeping.

Trip Leaders have researched accomodation in the area. We will be looking at a house that has a bed for everybody. Trip Leaders will get first pick of rooms and then will designate the other people who sign up to rooms. This will depend upon the gender mix we get after sign up. Funds will be paid in full upfront to Trip Leader so the house can be booked. Everyone will pay the same amount. The amount requested will include an AOC contribution of $15 per person. Any money at the end not used will promptly be refunded.

Once the house is booked, the money you have paid is not refundable. If someone else is on the waiting list and they pay, you will then be refunded.

Ideally we are looking at a house with bathrooms for every bedroom, a half bath and 2 kitchen areas to prepare food. Currently the accomodations we are looking at are coming in around $150-$175 each per night.

A link will be provided to the house when it is booked so there will be transparency of cost. After the trip, a detailed account will be provided.

You are responsible for bringing your own food for breakfast and lunch. (Please see the notes for Friday hike below).

For dinner we will eat as a group at a restaurant. We can decide if we want to eat right after hiking before getting to the accommodation or if we have time to shower and change before anyone reaches 'hangry' territory. Majority vote wins.

The Hikes:

Friday- You will arrange to meet with your carpool buddies and drive to the trailhead for our first hike. Be sure to have a cooler packed with your provisions for the trip, in a well insulated cooler your food will remain cool and fresh until we get to our accomodations later in the day.

Joyce Kilmer - The Hangover (12 miles/3000 feet of gain)The Joyce Kilmer Wilderness is home to old growth forest and huge views, join us as we explore and enjoy this gem. We will have multiple views as we make our way to "The Hangover", a rock outcropping with magnificent 360 views. We will also be on the lookout for old growth trees as we make our way up.
