Itinerary:
Here's a chance to stay ahead of the holiday calories and take advantage of the good weather too!
We'll hike the 5.5 mile Cherokee Trail around Stone Mountain and then include an optional climb to the top. There will be a minimum of breaks and we'll maintian a pace of somewhere around 2.5 miles per hour. I've included plenty of "guest" spots in case you have company in town that might like to join us. While not a D5 hike, this is not a beginner hike either. Make sure you and your guest are up to 5.5 miles of vigorous hiking!

Meet me behind Confederate Hall and the big parking lot there. There is an $8.00 fee to enter the park or you can park free at Stone Mountain Village and make the short walk into the park. Directions are below and you can find more online at the Stone Mountain Park website etc.

The hike starts promptly at 1:30 PM!

Announcement: It has come to my attention that a portion of the Cherokee Trail is closed due to recent flooding/construction projects. I have checked it out and found that the detour detracts very little from the hike.

Required Items to Bring:
• Comfortable shoes with a good grip as the rock can be slippery..
• 1 - 2 liters of water or sports drink
• Trail snacks
• Personal first-aid/blister treatment
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Directions: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile – stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We’ll meet behind Confederate Hall near the walk up trail.

If you would like to try the free public parking in Stone Mountain Village, from Hwy 78 take exit 5 which merges onto GA 10. Proceed 0.5 miles to the first exit. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive a mile or so, past a gas station and a funeral parlor (both on your right). When you see City Hall turn left. There is a Marta park and ride on fourth street. From there it is a short walk on East Mountain Street. Enter the park through the gate and you'll be at the parking lot where we'll be meeting.
