Itinerary:

Howdy! Join me for a brisk hike around Stone Mountain. We will take the Cherokee Trail which circles the mountain for a distance of about 5 miles. We will hike at times on exposed granite, along woodland trails and beside scenic lakes. Then, via the secret Indian Trail, we will hike to a point near the top of the mountain, then walk out onto the granite and join the masses for the final push to the summit!

The goal of this hike is to enjoy a vigorous workout.
No time for picture taking or sight seeing. We will take only one break at the half way point for restrooms and a quick snack and then continue with the hike. We will maintian an average pace of about 2.75 miles per hour. So, this is not a beginners hike! You must have some experience hiking at an energetic pace and be ready for a workout.

We will meet behind Confederate Hall, right behind the big parking lot. The charge to enter Stone Mountain Park has increased to $10.00 - Yikes! So if you choose, you can park free at the MARTA parking lot at nearby Stone Mountain Village - directions below. From there it is less than a half mile walk to the park and the entrance is near our meeting area. Please take the time to look at the park map and parking options in order to be on time!

Watch the weather! This event will be cancelled due to rain. Portions of the trail consists of exposed granite on steep slopes. It is simply too slippery and dangerous when wet. You will be notified via email early on the day of the hike if the event has been cancelled. Likewise, a "cancelled" notice for the event will appear on the AOC calendar.

Meet at 1:15 to sign in - the hike starts at 1:30 sharp!

Any questions - email me.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:
Directions: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile – stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. (Careful - there's a stop sign in front of Confederate Hall for those entering the West Gate.) The parking lot will be immediately after. We’ll meet behind Confederate Hall near the walk up trail.

If you would like to try the free public parking in Stone Mountain Village, from Hwy 78 take exit 5 - stay right for a half mile - then a quick exit to E. Ponce/Stone Mtn. Village. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive a mile or so into town. Turn left on East Mountain. Turn right on Fourth Street.  There you will find the MARTA park and ride. From there it is a short walk on East Mountain Street. Enter the park through the gate and you'll see a parking lot. Walk through the parking lot to the rear of Confederate Hall and there we will be.
