Itinerary:
Come climb with us!

This is our 3rd Annual early spring Rocktown Camping and Climbing weekend!

We will meet at the Busbee Park and Ride in Kennesaw at 8:15am and drive two and a half hours to the Rocktown parking lot on top of Pigeon Mountain just outside of Lafayette, GA. (the road was washed out in mid-2009, be aware that it may still be a bit of challenge to drive on)

From the parking lot, we will hike about 20 minutes on primarily flat terrain to the several climbing areas in Rocktown. There we will spend about 30 minutes discussing a climbing basics, safety, equipment, climbing commands, knots, technique. Then we will have a fantastic day of climbing until about 5:00, then we head to set up camp, and enjoy campfire food and good company.

There is primitive camping available on Pigeon Mtn., our plan is to camp out Saturday night and continue climbing on Sunday morning after breakfast.  Breakfast of scrambled eggs, coffee and bacon will be provided by your team leaders (as long as we have a camp stove to use!); please feel free to contribute other breakfast goodies. And if you are super good, you will have coffee delivered to your tent... :-)

NOTE: Beginners are welcome, but you must bring your own harness, shoes, belay device and locking carabiner. Additionally, you will need to know how to belay. This keeps the rotation between climber / belay-er going and allows everyone the chance to climb. You can rent climbing shoes at one of the local climbing gyms if needed.

Currently, we do not have extra gear. :-(

Experienced climbers will be on the trip to give pointers and to emphasis safety.

Be sure to bring camping gear!
