Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Join me as we enjoy the Sope Creek and Cochran Shoals CRNA areas.

We will begin at the Sope Creek Parking lot and head down to the ruins. We will weave through Sope Creek to make our way to Cochran shoals where we can stop for a bathroom break

We will walk fast on the asphalt path all the way to Akers Mill (another bathroom if necessary) and then head back hanging a left on the swampy boardwalk to hit the inner trails where we can get some elevation.

We will be on hiking trails, bike trails and asphalt so consider your footwear.

We will then head back taking some of the same and some different trails and meander our way to the parked cars through the Sope Creek part of the park.

Why is this exploratory? Even though we know these trails well, we want to increase our usual D2 6 mile hike to a D4 10 ish mile hike for those wishing to do more miles. We will be exploring the routes as we go. We seem to do a little bit different every time we are in the park but always find our way back.

If you sign up, be prepared to finish 15 minutes either side of the published finish time and also accept we may be closer to 9 miles or we may even be over 10 miles as we weave through the many walking and biking trails this beautiful area has.

This is not a beginners hike. We will keep up an aggresive 3mph + for the duration of the hike. This hike will probably offer about 1400 + ft of elevation change, so a fast pace should be very manageable.
