Itinerary:

The Conasauga River truly amazes me with her beauty.  You'll enjoy this route located adjacent to the Cohutta Wilderness boundary.

I'm making this trip a D4+ due to the cold weather, as the terrain is very flat for the backpacking portion. The hiking can be hilly or flat, depending on which trails we choose to explore, if any at all.

Saturday we'll meet at the carpool, head up 75 and stop off for lunch near Chatsworth.  Afterward we'll head to the trailhead to begin our trek.  We'll backpack roughly four miles and set camp.  An option exists to futher hike and explore along the river.

Sunday we'll enjoy breakfast with an option to hike a bit before breaking camp and backpacking to the car.  Then we'll head back to Atlanta.

Depending on how you pack, we'll have dinner and breakfast away from the car and probably a few snacks too.

Required Items to Bring:
You should already know how to backpack, night time temps are in the 20s this time of year with highs in the 40s.  At a minimum you should plan to bring a 20 degree bag and a 3 season tent.  I'd bring a water purifier for safery but you'll likely be ok if you have a water bladder of 100oz and a 32oz bottle.

Hiking poles
Backpack stove/heating source
Headlamp
Stove
Lighter
bear cannister - not for bears, but rodents
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

suntan lotion - for wind burn protection

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $28.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
