Itinerary:

Photo of the "heron going for the fish" by Joyce Taffe.  Thanks Joyce!

This is not a hike for a beginner.  To qualify, you must have kept pace with a D2 group on a previous hike and be willing to keep pace with the group on this hike.

Elevation gain: 299 feet - a D1 on this basis (one 131 foot hill done twice, Joyce's Hill, with several knobs but just one hill)

Avg. Moving Speed:  Fast end of Moderate (our last 3 hikes ranged from 2.9 to 3.3 mph)

The Rottenwood Creek trail connects the Chattahoochee River trail in West Palisades with the Bob Callan trail and as you may have guessed it follows the Rottenwood Creek which powered the old Akers Mill and provides minor cascades for us to enjoy along the way for much of the hike.

Terrain: 100% pavement

Here are a few posts on AllTrails:

"A great mix between the urban Atlanta area, and the wildlife / Chattahoochee river. Great for walking, hiking, and running as well."

"Gorgeous walk with plenty of scenery, both natural and urban. Great way to spend an afternoon."

Required Items to Bring:

Clothing (wear)

You are required to have a mask with you to use whenever you cannot social distance.  This is federal land so there is a requirement.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

I suggest cushioned shoes such as running shoes for the pavement.

A stylish straw hat, gym shorts, and knee socks, are mighty fine.
