This hike is designed for those new to AOC or new to hiking. Leita Thompson is a beautiful park with just 170 feet of elevation. The trails are made of soft, small gravel and plenty wide to walk side by side with very little roots and rocks.
Plan is to walk 1 lap around the park at a slower speed but just enough to get a good workout.
DOGS ARE WELCOME! Well-behaved and on a leash, please.
More info about the park:
There are no bathrooms, but there are three sets of porta potties throughout the park.
Please call me if you are running late 770-856-2105. Please arrive a few minutes early for check in as we will be leaving on time.
NOTE; We are starting the hike from the overflow parking lot. See below for directions to this parking lot.
|How to Get There:|
1200 Woodstock Rd
It's best to use maps.google.com and map directions from your destination. You can go to maps.google.com and enter the bold text below in to the search bar. If you chose Satelite View, you can see a birdseye view of the parking lot.
There are 3 parking areas, the first is the dog park, the 2nd is the arts center/overflow parking lot and the third is the walking trails where you will see the green roofed pavillion. We are starting the hike at the overflow lot. If you happen to turn into the lot with the green roofed pavillion there is a small shaded gravel road on your right as soon as you turn off Woodstock Road.
About Leita Thompson
Leita Thompson was an early female banking executive who helped other working women with retirement assistance, disability, housing and social and professional recognition. She bought the 107 acre piece of (then rural) land in Roswell as a “vacation property” from her permanent residence in Atlanta. Eventually she moved here and lived here until her death in 1978.
