Itinerary:

Join me as I hike the North Carolina portion of the Appalachian Trail!!

We’ll meet at the Wayah Crest Parking Area. From the parking lot, we’ll head NOBO on the Appalachian Trail to the Wayah Bald Summit Lookout Tower. Here, we’ll take in some great views of the Appalachian Mountains and Siler Bald (where we’ll be headed next) and take a snack/rest break. This portion of the hike will be approximately 4.3 miles (8.6 miles round trip) with 2,014 feet of elevation gain.

Once we have finished taking in the views, we’ll head SOBO on the Appalachian Trail passing our cars. You can replenish on water and snacks at your car if you’d like. Depending on the time, we can have lunch at the parking area or take a lunch break along the way to Siler Bald for lunch. We’ll follow the Appalachian Trail SOBO to Siler Bald. This portion of the hike will be approximately 2.5 miles (5.1 miles round trip) with 1,112 feet of elevation gain.

Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $98.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

Because this a D5 Hiking event, if you have not recently completed recent D5 AOC hikes, I may be contacting you to determine your level of fitness and experience to make sure this is the right hike for you.

This event may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not satisfactory for an enjoyable outing.
