Itinerary:

12 miles and 3000 feet of gain.

Let's hike the bike and horse trails at Fort Mountain State Park.

We will meet at the Visitor Center at 8:45AM.

We will park near the entrance of the park and hiking clockwise we will take the Gahuti Trail until the #301 bike trail crosses to our left and continue down a steep power easement, passing an old talc mine on the left. At checkpoint #1 we will go right on Horse Trail #407, passing 2 waterfalls and 3 old talc mines. Then we will continue all the way along (Trail #407), with a short walk along Horse Trail #403 to Trail #301, taking a right on #301, passing another mine. We will continue on #301 passing another waterfall, when we reach the stem of #301, we will continue (make a left) a short distance to the park road and make a left along the road to finish the hike back where we began.

WARNING:  This trail has the potential for water crossings.  While I don't think you'll need water shoes, I would advise you to wear waterproof boots.

There is a steep section that we will go down.  Trekking poles are recommended for this.

Parking fee is $5.00 unless you have a current GA State Park Pass.
