Itinerary:

Blood Mountain is the highest point on the Appalachian Trail in Georgia  We will begin our hike at the parking lot at Lake Winfield Scott, hike Jarrard Gap Trail for approx. 2 miles, connect with the AT, travel the Freeman Trail (a very rocky trail just under two miles in length), ascend to top of Blood Mountain and then travel back to our vehicles (just under three miles back) utilizing the Slaughter Creek Trail. all climbs will be slow and easy - pace will pick up a bit on level or downhills.

This is NOT a fast hike - slow to moderate  (will vary depending on the elevation gain at that particular point in the trail)

This will be a beautiful hike, Mountain Laurel, Azaleas, Rhododendrons (hopefully all in bloom).  Hike will be about 10 miles - we will take a few quick water breaks and then a slightly extended break at the top of Blood Mountain (15 min.) - pack lunch or snacks. Water is a must!!!

Approx time on the trails 4 1/2 hours

$5 entrance fee at Lake Winfield Scott
