If you plan on going to the social this will be close by North River Tavern with some time to spare before it starts. The flow rates are unclear at this time, but we paced this for slow water. If it’s fast, we will have time to explore on the way down. This self-shuttle paddle will be from Island Ford's Boat Ramp down to the Dam at Morgan Falls Park. There should be time to get back to the cars at Island Ford before the social starts.
We'll be doing a bit of exploring along the way so it's 9 solid miles.
Self-Shuttling is enforced so bring a "yak-buddy!" Drop the take out car at Morgan Falls lot in Sandy Springs (the play ground area, next to High Country O'fitters Paddle Shack), load both boats up and head to Island Ford's lot nearest the dirt field that leads to the boat ramp...both locations have LONG distances for carrying a boat, be prepared for that. ...especially at MF's it will be dark and you will be spent! If the flow is fast (close to 5000cfs or more) we will need to call any beginner paddlers to see if you will be safe on the event. .
|How to Get There:|
Take out is at Morgan Falls Park - (parking is free) be prepared for a LONG portage up to the cars!
Drop in is at the Boat Ramp - Island Ford CRNRA (parking fees are required) 1978 Island Ford Pkwy, Atlanta, GA 30350 - the boat ramp road goes off to the right just BEFORE the Visitors Center....see GPS link above for DROP IN LOCATION - also another long-ish boat portage, at least it's flat.
Parking is free at MF
IF requires the CRNRA fee/tag to park., arrive early and get your yearly pass
COVID-19 is still an issue, so while face coverings are NOT required on event, keep your distance and/or wear a mask out of respect for others!
