Itinerary:

Join me as we enjoy the 360 views at the Wesser Bald Fire Tower.

This high D5 event has plenty of climb and fantastic views! We will start at the Nantahala Outdoor Center where parking spots are set aside for hikers. We will get on the AT and start our steady 6.6 mile ascent of Wesser Bald. There are some nice views along the way, which will give us an opportunity to take a brief respite from the climb. At the summit of the bald we will find the fire tower, which we can climb to enjoy 360 views of the surrounding mountains including Cheoah Bald to the west and the Smoky Mountains to the north. We will stop here to enjoy our lunch before retracing our steps back to our cars to complete our out and back AT adventure. If the group feels up to it, after lunch we may venture a little further to get into D6 territory.

This is a difficult D5 event with over 3800 feet of gain. Recent D5 experience is required to join the fun.
